The first annual 10-mile "McGowan Chase" took place in Newfields, NH Sunday morning, a fundraising event to benefit three local nonprofit organizations in Wentworth Charities, Beyond the Rainbow, and Seacoast United Foundation. Through corporate sponsors and individual donations, the race was proud to award over $1000 to each of the three charities.
Wentworth Charities focuses their fundraising on supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, while Exeter Hospital’s Beyond the Rainbow provides assistance to families struggling with cancer. The Seacoast United Foundation provides support to soccer families and local community soccer programs through scholarships and community grants.
Early morning rain tailed off just as the runners were ready to begin, making way for cool temperatures under cloudy skies as 30 participants took to the trails. The race had a 5-mile drop out point for those looking to complete a shorter run.
Both Seacoast United Foundation golf events benefit the financial assistance programs and college scholarships awarded each year, helping families with the costs of tuition and travel expenses. The Ledges in York, ME plays host to the annual Bob Masi Memorial Golf Tournament in May, and the Jarkko Tuominen Memorial Golf Tournament in August.
