The Seacoast United U14 Girls captured the Super Y-League National Championship with a 2-1 overtime win over the Washington Freedom. Seacoast held a 1-0 lead at the half, but Washington scored the equalizer off of a corner kick with 2 minutes remaining in regulation to force the game to overtime. Rachel Hill scored the game-winner for Seacoast with 3 minutes left in the overtime period. This is the 2nd Super Y-League National Championship for the Club, the other coming in 2004 (U15 girls).
The Seacoast United U14 Girls finished a successful 2009 campaign with an unbeaten record of 11-0-1. They finished first in their division within the New England region against some strong competition. SUSC finished the season with a goal differential of +60, scoring 68 goals and conceding only 8 over 12 games. During group play over the weekend, the 14’s defeated Majestics (Northern VA) 2-1 in the opener, then rolled with two shutout wins over Parsippany NJ (5-0) and West Michigan Fire Juniors (3-0).
Finishing first in their group after round-robin play over the weekend, the Seacoast girls advanced to the Semi Finals on Monday to face Kalamazoo Kingdom and defeated the squad from Michigan 6-0. “The match was a good battle and I don’t feel like the scoreline reflected how well Kalamazoo played,” said Seacoast head coach Dave Burgess. The win put Seacoast in the final match against the Washington Freedom, a youth development team affiliated with the Women’s Professional Soccer club of the same name.
The Super Y-League North American Finals took place in Tampa Florida from November 19th through 24th. Seacoast United Soccer Club sent three teams to the event: The U14 Girls, U17 Girls, and U14 Boys qualified for the Finals with their strong play in the New England region this summer. The top 16 teams from 6 regions representing the United States and Canada compete in one match per day for 5 days until the top team is crowned.
The U17 Girls are ranked #12 in the USL Super Y-League Club First 11 Rankings. They finished 1st in the New England region and have won four USYSA State Championships, and was a Region I finalist in 2008. NSR and GotSoccer currently rank the U17’s #11 in the country. The girls have won division championships at the FC Delco Showcase, PDA Players Cup, Scorpion Bowl, and TDBank tournaments. The 17’s also went 3-0 during group play, advancing to the U17 Semi Finals before falling to a strong Cleveland Internationals side.
Seacoast United’s U14 Boys finished the Super Y-League regular season with an 8-3-2 record, winning Group B of the New England region by tying Group A champion MPS Bulldogs for the best offense in the region. Both clubs scored 31 goals in 13 matches. SUSC fell 1-0 in head to head competition with the Bulldogs but topped 3rd place Ottawa Fury by a score of 2-1, allowing them to advance to the Finals.
